Find out more about Moss Funerals

Tom was born in Manchester and raised in the High Peak. He began his working life in local agriculture before serving in the Royal Navy. He started working in the funeral industry 18 years ago where he gained experience initially working in the United States and more recently in England. Recognising the difference between the personalised and individual services held in America and the formal traditional services performed in Britain he embarked on creating a funeral directors that brings together the best of both.

Sheila has been a lifelong resident in the High Peak and understands the needs of the local community she will work with Tom to bring a female personal touch to the business.

She is a retired nurse and social worker and is experienced in working with people who have lost a loved one. She can meet with you to plan and organise the funeral that best suits your needs.

Sheila is a professional Celebrant and is a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants.   Many people find that traditional funerals, particularly those with religious rituals, do not reflect the life and individuality of their loved one or represent their personality.  As an Independent Celebrant, she writes and conducts funeral services. Each ceremony is individually written and created as a fitting tribute to honour the deceased.  She will work alongside you and with great care compose a truly uplifting service which is totally unique to any other. This service will reflect the true character & nature of the person who has died, sensitively respecting and acknowledging any challenges they may have faced along life’s pathway, but most importantly celebrating the life which has been lived.

It’s difficult to write a review about a sad event, the usual words don’t really work. Moss were a really lovely company to do business with at the most difficult time. Tom acted efficiently but sensitively, giving us a sense of reassurance that everything was being properly organised. Sheila acted as celebrant for my dad and created an amazingly personal and beautifully crafted ‘service’. After gentle discussion with the family, Sheila captured the essence of my dad’s life. People still comment that they were so touched by Sheila’s words and that it was just the ‘best’ funeral they’d ever attended. Not the right words I know.
